The pineapple casserole is a traditional dish for the southerners. This is the dish that will surely make the whole family have a great time during holidays. This will ensure that all palates are satisfied in the dinner table, both young and old.
What makes it so special is the fact that the dish has so many flavors yet they blend perfectly together. It tastes savory yet sweet, and all the tastes in between. However, it has one disadvantage; it does not look all that tasty. This is one of the best example of ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ as although the pineapple casserole does not look good, but it is heavenly.
When after so many years a family serves a pineapple casserole for Christmases, Thanksgivings, Easters and all the other holidays that you can think of, the interest to the food may be lessen. If this is the case, then it is time to recreate the recipe and add a new twist to the old age recipe heritage. The twist has all the elements that a cook dreams of because it is very easy to make, very fast to produce (usually it will not take more than 30 minutes to prepare) and it is so much more than merely yummy. Here is how you can produce the special pineapple casserole.
Before starting cooking, there are some ingredients that must be ready, they are 2 big pineapple cans, 2 cups of cheddar cheese that has been shredded, a cup of sugar, 5 tablespoons of flour, 5 tablespoons of pineapple juice, a stick of melted butter or margarine and a cup of crushed crackers of your choice (Ritz is a good example).
After all the ingredients are prepared, open the canned pineapple and separate the juice from the fruit. Scatter the fruit at the base of your baking dish evenly, and then put all the cheese as evenly as possible on top of the pineapple. Leave the baking dish for a while and then take a bowl to be used to combine pineapple juice, flour and sugar until it looks like a thick paste.
Once the paste is mixed properly, pour it to the baking dish and let it sip through the cheese. The next thing to do is to mix the crushed crackers with melted margarine or butter and spread the mixture on top of the casserole. Lastly, put the baking dish with all the things in it to the oven with 350 degree in temperature for about 25 minutes before you can serve it.
