There are so many names to an avocado tree. Among the names are the alligator pear, the persea americana and also the love fruit. Even it may be called the alligator pear, but the fact remains that avocado is a very nutritious fruit. The avocado consists of three races, they are the Guatemalan, West Indian and the Mexican. From the tree races, many cultivators create so many hybrids.
The Mexican avocado varieties are the hardiest among the three. They bear smoother and thinner shiny green avocado. On the other hand, the Guatemalan avocados can only live in the hotter climates. They are different to the Mexican avocados because they are green, blackish, and thick and have bumpy rinds. As for the West Indian avocados, they are the most sensitive type of avocadoes when it comes to the cold weather. The fruits are thin, with smooth and green yellowish skin.
For the avocado trees to thrive, location is the most important factor. As mentioned earlier, some of the races are very sensitive to cold and thus they would not survive living in the cold areas. The location also determines the moisture and humidity of the area. Moreover, these trees do not have bark. Without the barks, they could not protect themselves against the intense heat of the sun. That is why they need to be placed under the shade of other taller trees.
The adjacent tree would then be the protector from the intense heat of the sun. The plant to hide the avocado under its heat would be called the parent tree. But that was in the nature. If the avocado tree is to be grown in the nurseries or greenhouses, it should be placed under a canopy. The three reasons above have summarize the ideas why the avocado trees need the perfect location.
Watering the avocado should be on a grass schedule in the fall, summer and spring. Check for the dryness of the avocado before watering the plant again. It likes to be dry in between the watering. In the winter times, it is very important to pay close attention to the watering. The avocados do not like damp and cold soil and in the circumstances, they can easily develop the rotten root issues.
So do not water so much during the season of winter. If it is the winter with hard rain, then you would need to have brems around the avocado tree. These brems can be used to remove the excess water during winter so that the rainwater will not accumulate in the soil nearby the tree.
