This gelatin dessert has been around for so many decades and even now, its popularity has not decreased. In fact, Jello flavors can be considered as one of the most famous American dessert. Jello became as famous as it is today not only because of its quality and flavor innovations, but they are at the level of they are today because of the clever advertising campaign, new merchandising methods as well as the well trained salesmen with impeccable groom. The six delicious flavors of Jello has even become an inspiration for movies such as the animation movie, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.” The movie tells about a machine that can create food and the protagonist created a dream palace made of Jello to impress the girl that he likes. The original idea of jelly started out in 1845. The inventor’s name was Peter Cooper and at that time he patented a gelatin product, however the product could not be considered as jell. 42 years later, in 1897, a carpenter from LeRoy named Pearle Wait was trying to create a cough remedy as well as laxative tea at home. Some of the mixtures of his experiments were gelatin and he mixed it with different fresh flavors.
His family loved it very much and his wife named the product Jello. Because of the enthusiasm from everyone trying the product, then he decided to market the product. As he did not have the capital nor the experience to market such product, he sold the recipe to a businessman from the same town for $450 which was quite a lot of money for the era.
After many changes of owners’ later, Jello was finally at the right hand as after a century later, the trademark did not change but the advertising campaign started. No matter how much money invested in the advertising campaign at that time, it was a great campaign and a successful one, thus it was the sum of money well invested. Somehow, there were still changes of ownerships until now it is at the hand of Kraft/General Foods which is manufactured in Dover Delaware and become an iconic product.
