There are two hardiness zones, zone 10 and 11, in which the United States Department of Agriculture has set up where the mango trees can thrive. The mango trees are also known as the mangifera indica. They can bear fruits that are quite heavy for the size, shapes like larger eggs and each of the mango fruit has one single seed in the middle part of the flesh. Mango is known to be one of the most popular tropical fruit. The skin of the variety is red and soft while the flesh is yellow. As a tropical fruit, the mango trees can only grow under particularly specific condition. When the conditions that they require are not met, then the mango tree may grow and live but it will not produce the fruits and become only vegetation.
The young mango tree need time to mature as they are newly transplanted or planted. After the certain time required, they will then be able to bear fruits. The young mango tree can be obtained by the grafting process or from planting the seeds. The young mango tree from the grafting process will need at least three to five years to mature and produce fruits. On the other hand, the young mango tree from the seed planting will need at least five years before it can mature. The process can be faster if they live in the proper condition.
The proper conditions for the mango tree would give the tree to grow healthily and bear lots of fruits. However, the conditions that are not favorable would only produce the heavy vegetation. A mango tree will need full sun, however it should be planted in the area with shelter so that it will be protected during the cold winter and fall season. During the two seasons in which there will be rain water, the mango tree should not be receiving the supplemental irrigation.
When reaching the 10th year of age, many of the mango fruit trees would only alternate years. That is why, many gardeners start to develop the method to induce the blossoms during the years when they are supposed to be off. Some of the practices of blossom induction include slashing the trunks of the mango tree, smoking the tree, girdling, withholding irrigation, salting the ground, etc. The methods for each area may be different, but they are all want the same thing to cause stress to the tree so that the mango tree will induce flowering.
