Tomatoes are often used for different dishes. However, as the tomatoes are the summer treats, for our conveniences, we often turn to the canned tomatoes. After all, it is not easy to forget about canned tomatoes when all you can see almost all through the isle is the canned tomatoes from different brands. We know that tomatoes are healthy but do canned tomatoes have the same effects on our bodies? Yes, it is true that they are widely used, but even a product that is widely used can have certain disadvantages for our health. A good example is cigarette. The canned tomatoes contain the BPA or Bisphenol A. It is an organic compound that is used to produce various plastics such as the disposable food containers and the reusable water and baby bottle, in addition it can also be found in many food products including the canned products in which canned tomato is one of them. BPA can be dangerous for health and in the case of the canned tomatoes, it is even more dangerous. Canned tomatoes are acidic and therefore this extreme level of acid can break down the BPA thus when we consume the canned tomatoes, we also consume the BPA that leeches into the tomatoes. So by consuming the canned tomatoes, we are consuming high dose of dangerous chemicals.
Yes, most of us by now may have BPA in our bodies as we have been unaware of its danger in the past and had been consuming the food products with BPA in them. BPA is known to be a hormone disrupter as it has the ability to mimic the estrogen hormone of human body. As the BPA has been identified as a toxic substance, many countries have started to ban the use of BPA, especially in baby bottle.
There are reports that BPA can trigger cancer and increase the chance of cancer. However, to which extend the BPA can disrupt the human’s health will still need to be studied, but it is better to avoid the BPA by at least, reducing the consumption of those food products. After all, natural food is the best for us, even though this means that we need to spend more time in the kitchen during the preparation and may need to wait for another summer to enjoy those delicious red tomatoes.
