There are different types of cucumber and to be able to choose the most suitable one for your condition, you need to know the cucumber types.
1. Greenhouse cucumbers
If you are one of the lucky gardeners who happen to have a greenhouse, then you can try to grow your cucumber indoor. The greenhouse cucumber type is the cucumber plant that produces smooth and long fruits. This is the type that you can find in the supermarkets. They do not need pollinating, so you do not have to worry about pollinating them.
2. Outdoor cucumbers
The outdoor cucumber is also known as the ridge cucumbers. Unlike the greenhouse cucumber, this type is shorter and the skin is rougher. These would be its advantages of being able to crop outdoors. Unlike the greenhouse cucumber that only has female cucumber plant, the outdoor cucumber has both male and female. That is why it needs to be pollinated.
Cucumbers can be grown from seeds. This can apply for both indoor and outdoor cucumbers. For outdoor cucumbers, you can directly sow them on the ground from May to June. Once they are germinated, they need sunlight, therefore if you grow them indoor; you need to bring them to windowsills until they are growing to be large enough to be transplanted. The best temperature for them would be 60 degree Fahrenheit; therefore if possible you need to maintain the temperature. This would be possible if you are growing them indoor.
They need routine treatments in order to give the best harvest. If you grow them inside the greenhouse, then you will need to keep the warmth and humidity inside the greenhouse by spraying the pathways. You also need to provide sticks so that they can grow. As for the ones on the outdoor ,they do not need canes and they can grow on the ground. Remember to help the pollination when necessary or let the nature do it with the help of certain insects.
