Growing your own fruit can be so rewarding. It is like being able to enjoy the fruits of your hard work. It will definately taste so much sweeter and more delicious. One of the easiest yet nutritious fruit to grow is the pineapple. This fruit is so exotic as they are often found in the tropical paradises of the world. Even so, it has the ability to grow in a temperature that is in a controlled condition. Moreover, this plat will bear fruit in only a matter of months, so one does not have to wait too long like plating apple trees that can take years. In short, growing pineapple is just one of the best thing to do. The only difficult thing to do is to make sure that it is rooted. But this process is avoidable if one purchases the baby ones.
But when someone want to make a project at home of trying to grow a pineapple plant from another pineapple, then here is the instructions to do it. A word of advice is to have a little bit more patient as the process can take to two or three years. Find yourself a nice and mature pineapple with green leaves (do not pick those with brown or yellow leaves). The mature pineapples should have a golden brown skin and not green ones. If you want to be sure, you need to grow at least two pineapples, so when one dies, you still have another rather than having to start the project over.
Take a closer look at the base of the leaves. When you see grayish spots, you need to try and find another one as these spots mean insects. Insects can only mean bad. Although you are looking for the ripe fruits, it does not mean that you should go for those which are overriped. Try to pull one of the leaves gently and when it pops out of its place, then it means that the fruit is overriped. On the other hand, if it stands still, then it is just perfect.
Once you are home, cut off the crown or you can also pull it out by twisting the leaves as hard as it is necessary. Once you trim the bottom of the crown, you will find root buds. These baby roots are good signs. Put them in a glass of water, but remember that you will need to change the water every few days. Do not put the glasses in the areas with extreme temperature. After three weeks, you will see that the roots will start to grow. Then you can move the crowns to a pot filled with soil.
