We all know the face of the Breyers ice cream of today. It is one of the most popular and most flavored ice creams or frozen dairy product, to be exact. available in the market. However, not many people knew about how they get to this phase. Before the years 2006, Breyers was only the small ice cream production company which was producing a small number of ice cream with all natural ingredients.
But then, a huge change was made. They moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin because of the part of cost cutting measures. However, this move was made so that they would be in the Unilever’s headquarters. They were becoming parts of Unilever.
Unilever changed them as at the hands of the huge company, Breyers created new formulation on falvors and also ingredients. They were no longer the company of all natural ingredients as they now have additive ingredients to the ice cream. They may have been following the business steps of their competitors as they greatly expanded their tastes, which also included the natural food additives with Carob Bean gum and Tara gum as the perfect examples. On the artificial sides, the added the additives such as maltodextrin and also propylene glycol.
Unfortunately, one of the cost cutting steps was to cut off the milk content in the ice cream so that it was lower than the United States ice cream milk content standard. But that was a necessary action so that the brand will survive the difficult time. Thus, they were no longer called ice cream, but frozen dessert. But not anymore. There are at least three changes of Breyer’s ice cream for customers. The first is that the cartoon packaging is not holding 48 ounces instead o the 64 ounces.
Is it a good change? Maybe for some people because then the price would not be so high anymore, but certainly not good for those who want to have parties and need big packaging. The second change would be that there is no more “All Natural” wording on each of the packaging as it is now replaced with “Quality.” So much for the brand’s identity. But of course, it is not easy to keep things all natural nowadays. The last change would be the fact that it is no longer real ice cream as it is frozen dairy dessert. Although they are identical, but they are not really the same. Taste it and you will know it.
