Do you know that green tomatoes can be processed into delicious snack? When we are talking about green tomatoes here, it does not mean that we are talking about raw tomatoes. Some tomatoes will stay green even when they are at the peak of their ripeness. This healthy food is surely so versatile that it can be turned into fried green tomato, a snack that even the children may fall in love with. Tomato is among the best fruit available as it has a high content of both Vitamin A and Vitamin C.
Fried green tomato is quite common, but it does not mean that everyone can cook it right. If you want to try and cook the dish, then you need ot prepare 30 minutes because 15 minutes will be used for the preparation and another 15 minutes will be needed for the cooking. The fried green tomato is easy to make and each of the recipe can provide for 4 people. To make a delicious one, you will need to prepare quite a lot of ingredients, they are:
Olive oil
4 large green tomatoes that have been cut into rings of 0.25 inch
Kosher Salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
0.75 cup of all purpose flour
A tablespoon of garlic powder
4 large eggs
2 tablespoon of milk
1.5 cups of panko bread crumbs
Pinch cayenne pepper
Pinch paprika
Buttermilk Dipping Sauce
A cup of apple cider
A tablespoon of brown sugar
0.75 cup of buttermilk
0.75 cup of mayonnaise
2 tablespoons of BBQ Sauce
1 juiced lime
4 thinly sliced scallions
Cooking instruction:
Preheat a deep fryer until it reaches 350 degrees F. Meanwhile, season the tomatoes with salt and pepper thoroughly.
Take another shallow dish and then beat the eggs and milk.
Take yet again another dish and this time mix the cayenne and paprika with bread crumbs.
Place the tomato in the flour, cover it, and then in the eggs, then the bread crumbs.
Fry them for about 2 to 3 minutes and then drain on paper towels.
Then make the buttermilk sauce by heating a pan over medium heat. Mix with the apple and then brown sugar. Let the mixture reduce to syrupy and thick substance.
Get a medium bowl to add the mayonnaise, buttermilk, lime juice and BBQ sauce. Whisk them well before adding apple cider mixture and scallions. Then refrigerate it before served with the tomato.
