Salad is easy to make, but a good salad has its own secret. One of the secrets is to have the right mix between salty and sweet. Both taste may be the opposite, but both are needed to create a balanced taste food. However, of course both should be the right amount, if not, and then you would not get the result that you wish for. One of those delicious salty and sweet salads is the pineapple pretzel salad. This salad has a great addition of the pretzel crunch and the great flavor of the pineapple. Because of those combinations, the salad is often mistaken for one of those desert dishes instead of an appetizer.
The ingredients of the pineapple pretzel salad includes 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, half a cup of sugar, 8 ounces of whipped cream for the topping, a can of well drained pineapple, 2 cups of crushed pretzels, half a cup of melted margarine or butter, and half a cup of sugar.
Get a medium bowl and combine the sugar and cream cheese together. Beat the mixture until both of the ingredients are mixed well. Add the whipped cream topping and also the drained pineapple to another bowl, medium sized bowl would do perfectly. Beat again the other two ingredients until everything is mixed evenly and add to the first mixture then stir again. Afterwards, put the bowl in the refrigerator. Next, take the pretzel that you have crushed earlier, sugar and also melted butter. Combine the three ingredients in another medium bowl. Stir them all until mixed perfectly.
Preheat the oven until you reach 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, spread the mixture of pretzel, sugar and butter or margarine out on a medium sheet used for cookies. The cookie sheet must have sides. It is a necessity. Put the mixture to the oven and let it bake for about 5 minutes only. Afterwards, remove the mixture and allow the pretzel to cool for a few more minutes. Take out the first mixture from the refrigerator and then add the pretzel mixture to the cream cheese one just before you want to serve the dish.
One note for the dish is to mix up the amount that you wish to eat or serve. If you mix for incoming guests that would not arrive in an hour or so, you may end up serving soggy pretzel. This would reduce the delicious taste of the dish as you will not be able to give the crunch that everyone is expecting from a pretzel.
